Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah Dominate Bangladesh
Bangladesh faced a tough situation during the lunch break of their cricket match against India, with the score at 26 for 3 and a significant run deficit. Indias bowlers, Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah, stood out, as Akash took 2 wickets for 5 runs and Bumrah claimed 1 wicket for 10 runs.
The Bangladeshi innings began on a shaky note, losing wickets. India capitalized on the chance with overs to play before lunch. Bumrah struck in his over, getting a batsman out and Akash Deep, whose bowling mirrored Hasan Mahmuds impressive five wicket haul, nearly achieved a hat trick just before the break.
The brief pre lunch period provided a lesson, for Bangladeshs fast bowlers on how to make the most of the conditions. Unlike their struggles with the ball on day one, Indias bowlers maintained lengths, using the pitches moisture to secure wickets, in just nine overs.
Bumrah started by bowling to the two left handed openers but switched his approach for the delivery. Shadman Islam, expecting the ball to move away like the ones before left it alone only to see it seam back in and knock him out. Zakir Hasan narrowly avoided an LBW call but Akash’s skill proved too much for both him and Mominul Haque.
Akash’s first over from around the wicket was uneventful but in his second over he delivered a ball that seamed in from a good length completely outsmarting Zakir while Mominul managed to position his pad in time before the ball deflected into the stumps. Even if the ball had missed the stumps Mominul likely would have been given out LBW. Mushfiqur Rahim edged the hat trick ball towards the gully but it fell short.
The first part of the game was slow but packed with enough excitement to keep the crowd interested. Taskin Ahmed, with the ball towards the end of the day outshone his earlier performance by consistently bowling at a length that caused Ravindra Jadeja to edge out on his score of 86. Akash had a brief time at the crease, featuring edges, a dropped catch, two impressive shots and a total of 17 runs off 30 balls before misjudging a delivery and hitting it high to mid off. Similarly, R Ashwin, while trying to hit over mid off ended up toe ending a ball for 113. Mahmud then came back into the attack and got an edge from Bumrah making him drop to his knees in gratitude for achieving his five wicket haul in Test matches.
