Arshdeep Singh Performance received praise from Tamim Iqbal, who said rarely does he get the credit he should. Arshdeep was awarded the Player of the Match award on Sunday when India, who were unbeaten in all four Tests against Bangladesh, took a 1-0 lead in the T20I series via a seven wicket win at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior.
India restricted Bangladesh to just 127 in 19.5 overs with Arshdeep bowling brilliantly, finishing 3.5 overs, 14 runs, 3 wickets. He dismissed Litton Das to pick up his first wicket, before going on to take the scalps of Parvez Hossain Emon and Mustafizur Rahman.
Arshdeep did stand out for me, what a final over he handled and picking the wicket of Mustafizur with his final ball as well, Tamim said. Arshdeep didn’t try to make it overly complicated, he is just in his limits, that’s what makes him so good at keeping the bowlers in line, said Tamim.
“I thought that last over he bowled was amazing.” Nobody talks about other overs other people say, but it was really crucial. What I love about him is that he knows his limits. There’s nothing which he tries to do which he’s incapable of, that is what makes him so consistent,” Tamim said after the match.
Tamim reiterated that Arshdeep has been crucial for India and should feature when bowling maestros Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj return.
“This isn’t one game, it’s about a whole season.” He’s been super off this and he’s been doing this for years. He is India’s frontline bowler. ‘I think he definitely fits in the side whether Bumrah and Siraj come in or not because even when they were all back he should be in the side,’ Tamim said.
Arshdeep Singh Performance has since his debut in T20Is in 2022 taken 86 wickets in 55 matches, two of those being four-wicket hauls. With 69 wickets under his belt, Bumrah is currently fifth on the list of most wickets by any Indian in Men’s T20I. He currently trails Mohammad Shami (72), Yuzvendra Chahal (72), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (73), and Hardik Pandya (75).
Arshdeep will be looking to carry his great form into India’s second T20I against Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 9.
