Australia vs England: Australia Defeats England by 28 Runs at Southampton in 1st T20I
Australian T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh reserved special words to his team’s all-round display that saw them clinch a nerve-wracking 28-run triumph against England in the first T20I in Southampton. Every match had notable performances and it was seen during this match, from Travis Head who started the good pace for Australia’s innings.
When asked his reaction after the game, Marsh said that he was feeling really happy to have won the game and that he cannot say enough that his compatriot, Head has played a magnificent 59 off 23 balls. Head is a special talent, the par score was at around 200, and we had quite a few players like him, said Marsh. He also highlighted that another factor contributed to the success of the team was the correct exploitation of the power play that exerted a lot of pressure on the England cricket team at the beginning of the game.
Starting with the man of the match Mathew Short who scored 41 of 26 balls, Head ensured that Australia scored 179-7 in 19 overs. 3 overs. The two set up an 86-run partnership for the first wicket that set the pace for Australia. Short came into the side following the exclusion of Jake Fraser-McGurk from the Scotland series and did not do a bad job at all, especially while opening for the side and taking Warner’s role in the team.
In the middle overs, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone spin from England gave a check to the Australian batting line up. But, the Australians made some bad choices in their bating which led to the dismissal and they reached 132-5 in the 13 overs. Josh Inglis brought a scintillating 37 off 21 balls to bring Australia closer to par score while Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood took care of the tail end.
Still they got off to a good start but soon England were struggling in the chase. Hazlewood really came to the party removing the dangerous Will Jacks early and putting the English team on the back foot as far as the demanded rate of scoring is concerned. Having reached the 10th over, cricket England team versus Australian men’s cricket team stood at 52/4. Some recovery was seen by Livingstone and Sam Curran who put on 54 runs for the 5 th wicket but strong Australian bowling display by Adam Zam and Josh Hazlewood along with Sean Abbott makes a difference.
England, however, fell for 151 in its 19 overs. 2 overs, finally claiming victory of the first of this eng vs aus t20 series match for the Australian team. Marsh applauded his bowlers and rated Zampa and Abbott as star performers, who conceded 20 and conceded 20 runs respectively and took three wickets each. A possible loss was Xavier Bartlett off the calamity of a suspected side strain but Australia victory places them in a good standing in the remaining games.
