Bangladesh Squad for India Series:
Left-arm fast bowling sensation Shoriful Islam will be out of action for Bangladesh’s Test series against India; 19-year-old Jaker Ali gets first Test call-up.
Bangladesh left-arm pacer, Shoriful Islam, has been ruled out of the two-match Test series against India which is scheduled to be held soon because of the left groin injury he is going through. The 23-year-old did not play in the second Test in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and she is still not back to her best. Bangladesh has not made any major reshuffle to its squad that achieved a historic 2-0 series victory over Pakistan. Rather than selecting another fast bowler the selectors have opted for wicket-keeper/batter Jaker Ali who earns his first Test call up.
Jaker Ali who is considered to be a destructive batsman in the shortest format of the game performed well during their recent Bangladesh A tour to Pakistan. Having looked at what is required of the players when in India and with already four seamers included in the team, then it is apparent that bringing Ali has two benefits. It bolsters the batting order and gives a backup for Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim to be relieved from wicket-keeping and hence focus on batting.
On Victoria series Bangladesh will open it with the first test in Chennai and the second test in Kanpur.
