BCCI financial assistance Anshuman Gaekwad cancer treatment

The BCCI has decided to allocate INR 1 crore for the treatment of former India batter Anshuman Gaekwad, who is currently battling blood cancer at a medical facility in London.

This decision was made following appeals from Kapil Dev and Sandeep Patil, who urged the board to assist Gaekwad.

“Mr. Jay Shah has directed the BCCI to immediately release INR 1 crore to provide financial support to veteran cricketer Mr. Anshuman Gaekwad, who is facing a tough battle against cancer,” the BCCI apex council stated.

The statement continued, “Shah has also spoken with Mr. Gaekwad’s family to understand their needs and offer support. The board stands firmly with Gaekwad’s family during this challenging time and will do everything necessary for Mr. Gaekwad’s swift recovery.

“The BCCI will keep a close eye on Mr. Gaekwad’s condition and is hopeful that he will emerge from this ordeal stronger.”

Anshuman Gaekwad, 71, played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1975 and 1987. Following his playing career, he served as a selector and then as the coach of the national team.
