Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Emotional RCB Debut in IPL 2025: Aims to Bring SRH Success to Bengaluru
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar finally made his IPL debut for the franchise on March 28, 2025, against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after 16 years. Despite being part of RCB’s 2009 squad, he only played his first official match for the team this season. Interestingly, Kumar had earlier represented RCB in the 2009 Champions League T20, featuring in one game.
In a heartfelt video shared by the IPL, the Meerut-born cricketer expressed joy about reuniting with RCB. He revealed feeling at home instantly, thanks to a warm welcome from teammates like Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. Reflecting on his journey, Kumar highlighted his successful stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he won the 2016 IPL trophy, taking 23 wickets that season. He now hopes to replicate that triumph with RCB, a team yet to claim an IPL title.
“Returning to RCB felt familiar, not new,” said Kumar. “My goal is always to win trophies. My 11 years with SRH were unforgettable, but I’m ready to give my all for RCB this year.”
Kumar admitted feeling “slightly awkward” joining RCB after over a decade with SRH but praised the team’s inclusive culture. “RCB made the transition smooth. Everyone here treats you like family, both on and off the field,” he added.
