History
The cricketers realised that they wanted to root together as a community, and bring excitement and a fast paced format in the world of cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had officially launched the Indian Premier League in 2008, which promptly made it a revolutionary sport that changed cricket for good.
IPL looked like a format based on Twenty20 (T20) concept as a result of which IPL featured matches in shorter styles, more action packed. What it did for cricket, and especially for cricket’s younger audiences, was to transform the way cricket was consumed. The mastermind behind the IPL was Lalit Modi who was going to make it a cricketing league, one to equal other world sports leagues like NBA and EPL. When eight franchises were started in the eight major Indian cities, the tournament started, his vision came to life.
The other innovation, however, was the launch of the IPL where teams were allowed to bid for as many as they required from the domestic cricket tigers, as well as overseas stars, to recreate a globally blended flavour of treasures. Over just a few years, Indian Premier League became one of the most watched, and most financially successful cricket leagues in the world. Combining high quality cricket with star power and good entertainment, Indian Premier League carved out a niche and quickly became a global phenomena.
