Mohammad Amir Breaks Maiden Overs Record in T20s
In a remarkable feat, Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has set a new record for the most maiden overs bowled by a pacer in T20 cricket. Amir achieved this milestone while playing for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.
During a match against the Barbados Royals, Amir bowled the opening over with the Falcons needing to defend a total of 177 runs. He delivered a masterclass in bowling, keeping Rakheem Cornwall, a well-known hard-hitter, from scoring any runs. Cornwall managed only a leg bye off Amir’s final delivery of the over.
With this performance, Amir has now bowled 25 maiden overs in T20 cricket, surpassing the previous record held by India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had 24 maidens. Amir now ranks third overall in the all-time list, behind Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan (26 maidens) and West Indies’ Sunil Narine (30 maidens).
