Lahore: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has asked the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, to ensure that the selection of players and officials shall be based on merit alone.
He reiterated during the ceremony held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore that the cricket team needs to be fully revamped. He also ordered that only merit should be the criterion for selection and that Naqvi should keep his distance from political or any other outside pressure to undermine the fairness of the process. “You should update the cricket team and choose people based on merit, which is your strength,” Sharif said. He also told him, “Even if I recommend someone who does not come up to the merit standards, you should politely refuse.” The Prime Minister also talked about revamping the domestic cricket set-up and indicated his satisfaction over the ongoing renovation work at the Gaddafi Stadium.
