Ravichandran Ashwin Leads India to Victory in First Test: Here’s the lowdown. Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian all rounder, played a role in Indias win over Bangladesh in their first Test match of the series. This took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ashwin was quite impressive. He earned the Player of the Match award by scoring his sixth Test century and taking six wickets three in each innings. Pretty cool, right?
Now, Monty Panesar, the former English spinner, shared an insight about how the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) might have treated Ashwin if he were English. Panesar suggested that England tends to experiment more. If Ashwin were English he might have already been advised to retire in favor of younger players with potential. He mentioned this during an interview, prompting thoughts on the varying approaches of cricket boards.
Panesar recently spoke out, about some drama involving his old teammate James Anderson, the famous English bowler. Despite expressing his desire to continue playing Anderson was somewhat pushed out of the format by those in charge. David Lloyd, another former English cricketer even commented on it in his column. He was quite blunt saying that Anderson was sidelined due to his age. He didn’t hold back, adding that in an era of inclusivity it’s rather ironic for someone to be benched because they’re older. He could relate to that experience.
Anyway shifting topics Panesar also shared his opinion on who he considers the spinner between Nathan Lyon and Ashwin. He mentioned that he believes Nathan Lyon is a bowler overall but Ashwin has the advantage in India because he approaches his bowling with a batter’s mindset. So while Panesar holds both in high regard he seems to think that Ashwin stands out on Indian pitches.
Oh and just so you know this Test marked Ashwins 101st appearance. Itll be fascinating to watch how long he maintains his position at the top with some spinners making an impact like we witnessed in the Duleep Trophy. So well have to wait and see how everything plays out.
