USA Wicketkeeper Shayan Jahangir Faces Visa Issues, Will Miss Tri-Nation Series Opener
Shayan Jahangir, the USA’s wicketkeeper-batter, is set to miss the first ODI of the upcoming tri-nation series against Namibia due to visa complications. The series, which includes hosts Oman, is scheduled to start on February 8. It’s still unclear whether Jahangir will make it in time for the second ODI against Oman on February 12.
Jahangir, a Pakistani national, had previously missed USA’s training camp for the series in India. The camp location was decided at the last minute, which caused problems with securing an Indian visa for him, as the process can be time-consuming for Pakistani citizens. However, getting a visa for Oman has not been an issue for Pakistani nationals in the past, so it’s unclear if there was a mistake in his application.
This visa problem is particularly frustrating for Shayan, who had been on a high after scoring a stunning hundred against Nepal in October, cementing his spot as an opener for the USA. In his absence, Smit Patel is expected to step in as opener alongside Andries Gous.
A spokesperson for USA Cricket expressed disappointment over the situation: “Shayan is a key member of our team, and we were really looking forward to having him in Oman. Unfortunately, due to a visa mix-up, he couldn’t travel with the squad. It’s a tough break, and we’re looking into what went wrong.”
