Babar Azam Retirement News
The name that is making headlines for all the wrong reasons these days in Babar Azam, Pakistan’s celebrated batsman. His form has been a cause of concern as he has failed to score the big runs which fans and critics alike have demanded from him. This dip in form is coming at a very difficult time for Pakistan cricket considering that both the T20 and ODI World Cup last year saw disappointing exits.
In the wake of this, Babar Azam has been victim to a large number of memes and fake posts suggesting he has indeed retired from international cricket. The first of these fake posts appeared on social media Monday, reading like a real retirement announcement. That’s why many thought it was an official account for Babar.
The promulgation of more such posts increased the confusion as this fake news spread further. Even so, the discussion is about an average show of Babar Azam on his tour. The Test series against Bangladesh brought out gory demons associated with his batting as he could only manage 64 runs in four innings from two Tests which earned him a lot of flak.
In 10 Test innings, here are Azam‘s recent scores:8 and 16*,30 and1,just21,19,and nothing in New Zealand Overall as well. His form in ODI cricket has not been good either — he averages 19. Although his T20 average still hovers in the high 30s at 38, he has been unable to bring that big-match temperament for which he is most famous.
Throughout this tough period, Pakistan Test coach Jason Gillespie is backing Babar Azam. The former Australian legend had recently said he has faith in the abilities of Babar saying, “he [Babar] is a quality player. He is world-class. I feel like he’s about to break through. He simply hasn’t been able to capitalize on his solid starts, but I think we’re going to see him cash in with huge numbers very soon.
