Chad Bowes Hits Fastest Double Century in Ford Trophy

Chad Bowes Hits Fastest Double Century in men’s List A cricket, Canterbury’s Chad Bowes has set a record on Wednesday, smashing the fastest double century in the Ford Trophy.

A new record in men’s List A cricket: Chad Bowes smashes the fastest double century for Canterbury against Otago in the Ford Trophy. He even got this – 200 runs in just 103 balls. Seriously, that’s insane. But wow eventually, he got out at 205 off 110 balls.

Former record share record of Australia’s Travis Head and India’s N Jagadeesan was beaten by Bowes. Both double centuries came off 114 balls. It was at South Australia’s expense to Queensland in the 2021-22 Marsh Cup in 2021. His double ton against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy was even more crazier – 277. Jagadeesan’s game was wild, as was yours too!

At any rate Bowes was the man making his 100th List A game and what a way to mark it. Helping Canterbury to 343 for 9 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, he smashed 27 fours and 7 sixes. Pretty solid score, right? From the off, Otago was in big trouble.

I don’t know, it might hit me later but man I’m happy it happened today at Hagley Oval,’ said Bowes afterwards. These things are just natural. You don’t plan for this.” He was spearheading the attack, though hitting everything out of the middle of the bat, he said not always, but clearly he’s been in the zone.
It was super aggressive from the off even after losing his partner he Henry Nicholls early for a duck (that’s 0 for anyone without a cricket degree). But Bowes kept moving and got to 50 in 26 balls, then his century took just 53.

He didn’t slow down, either, taking a mere 50 balls more to make that double ton, albeit getting out lbw in the 39th over off Matthew Bacon, who also got a five-for. Bowes’ score of 205 is his best in List A easily bettering his previous best of 126.

And by the way only two other Canterbury lads in the top seven made double figures! Zakary Foulkes (No. 8) then gave them another handy 49 off 46 balls as Captain Cole McConchie made 27 off 40.

Then Canterbury bowled Otago out for 103 to win by 240 runs.
