Jay Shah Denies Reports on Ponting and Langer as Coaching Candidates; Indian Cricket’s Next Leader Likely Homegrown

 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has outright denied the reports suggesting Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer for the coaching role. Just a day after reports surfaced regarding Australian coaches, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated, “Neither I nor BCCI has made any coaching offer to any former Australian cricketer.” Shah also hinted that the next Indian coach, who will replace the current Rahul Dravid, could potentially be an Indian.

“Finding the right coach for our national team is a complex and thorough process. We are looking for those who understand the complexity of Indian cricket and who have contributed to its growth. Our coach needs to be very knowledgeable.  of our domestic cricket framework,” said the BCCI Secretary.

Refuting the rumors about Australian former captain and coach being considered for BCCI offers, the Secretary said, “Many media outlets have reported the possibility of Ponting, Langer, and Stephen Fleming coaching the Indian team, as Dravid has decided not to continue after the upcoming T20 World Cup.” Ponting told ICC Review, “There were some discussions during the IPL, just to gauge my interest level in doing something like this,” Ponting said to ICC Review. He continued by saying that his family is preparing him for the working world.

Langer also stated that he has been ousted by BCCI and revealed that he discussed the matter with IPL team coach, Ael Rahul, who is in charge of IPL team. When asked about his interest in Indian employment after the game in Mumbai, Langer was non-committal. Team India commands the support of the largest fan base globally, which is truly unparalleled.”
