NZ vs AFG Test Day 1 Called Off Due to Wet Outfield
Day one of the high-voltage Test match between NZ vs AFG was called off without a single ball bowled as wet outfield at Greater Noida made the ground unplayable. While clear skies had been seen on the morning of the Test, the ground had stayed unplayable with wet patches following heavy rain over the past days.
There was no rain on the day of the match, but the preceding fortnight had plenty. And since the drainage at the venue wasn’t good enough, there was little chance of the outfield drying up enough for the game to start on time. At the pavilion end, the places near mid-off and mid-on were particularly bad, with the umpires declaring them dangerous to play on.
A few inspections were made throughout the day in order to check the state of the ground, but finally it was decided at 4:05 PM IST to call off play. The toss for the NZ vs AFG Test will now be held at 9:00 AM IST on Tuesday, with play starting at 9:30 AM IST.
