Is Shami back to full fitness for Australia tour?

Yes Shami back to full fitness for Australia tour. India’s main pacer, is fit after missing a lot of injuries here are those. Yes, Shami had had a few setbacks since after the 2023 ODI World Cup but now? He is, he says, 100% pain free. Finally!

The 34-year-old speedster, who hasn’t played a match for India since the World Cup, spoke about his progress. In fact, he bowled with his full run up at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, just after India’s first Test against New Zealand. Shami is feeling pretty good about where his fitness is heading and, and get this, Shami’s feeling pretty good about where his fitness is.

“It felt great yesterday. I was just using a half run up before that, you know, until I got to it. I went full throttle, but yesterday,” Shami said at an event in Gurgaon. You bowled as you can for the last two session I had tried and trying my best. The results were honestly super encouraging. I hope I’ll get back on track real soon.”

There’s a bit more history to it now – Shami has been struggling with a left Achilles heel injury that started to flare post World Cup and his knees. And, I’ll tell you, knee stuff is not something to mess around in.

Shami’s knee even swelled up after he was almost at 100%, Rohit Sharma said last week. It’s tough deciding whether to take Shami on the Australia tour because you don’t want to risk it with someone that isn’t fully ready, said Rohit.

But Shami’s positive. Shami, however, sounds pretty calm when he says: “I know everyone’s wondering if I’ll be on that Australia tour but that is still a ways off.” That’s huge: He feels ‘100%’ pain free now.

It’s all about getting fully fit and ready for him. All I can think of is just to keep myself fit and get stronger for the tour. It doesn’t matter what kind of attack we need for the Test series, I know what sort of it is needed and I’m spending time on the ground doing the detail. ‘I can go eight to 10 days if I get fit and I’ll play one or two domestic matches and then by the time I go to Australia I’ll be back.’

Shami’s not rushing, though. I don’t know when I’ll be back in a match, but once I’m comfortable bowling 20, 30 overs, I’ll be ready to go when the docs say I can.” The goal is to spend time on the ground with Australia before that series.”

Just a heads up – that first Test India and Australia? And oh. It begins November 22 in Perth. So, fingers crossed!
