Torrential downpour disturbed Day 1 of the SA vs WI game at Queens Park Oval, Trinidad and Tobago. Just 15 overs were possible however before rain halted play with South Africa on 45 for one.
Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi were the opening duo for South Africa. Kemar Roach was given the new ball and Markram wore a sharp angle one onto his thigh pad first up.
An edge to third man off Roach fetched Markram his first boundary. The range of delivery from West Indies was not good at start and many balls remained unplayed by the batsmen.
Gudakesh Motie blended in some spin on the fray in the eighth over, but de Zorzi’s eyes lit up for this opportunity. He whacked a pair of sixes off Sudama, one over mid-wicket and another to long-on. The best of these for de Zorzi was full tosses either side that were tucked away nicely by the batsman, it mattered little who was bowling.
Jason Holder had Ample impact his first ball, getting rid of Markram. He bowled an off-spinner outside the leg-stump which cut back sharply and dislodged it. Markram, hurried into the drive and not quite close to it, found a thick edge that flew in between bat-pad.
Play was abandoned shortly before the tea break as rain returned and soaked the covers. On Day 2, play will now get underway at 10:30am local time rather than the previously scheduled start of midday.
